SYNC.nl is an online magazine about the growing influence that science and technology have on business. SYNC is about innovation, both in The Netherlands as the rest of the world. Technology is becoming the basis for doing business. Also, innovation will play a crucial role in the transformation to a durable economy. SYNC publishes articles and news about these subjects: technology, science and business. For now, SYNC targets a Dutch-speaking/-reading audience.
An innovating platform
SYNC itself is also an innovating internet platform. The authors of the articles published on the website aren't employed by SYNC and don't write articles on commission. Instead, we offer authors the possibility to (re)publish their articles on our website. In return, the authors share in the advertisement proceeds of the website. These proceeds are divided according to the number of reads: if an article is read more, the author earns more.
The website is also technologically innovating, for instance with the tagdial, a novel way for visitors to declare their personal preferences. Using these preferences, the website adjusts itself by prioritizing interesting articles and newsitems accordingly. So, for instance, a user with an interest for business trends will more likely be presented articles about this subject.
Another technological innovation on the website is the printbundle, with which a visitor can select a number of articles and have these converted to PDF file. The innovation herein lies in the layouting of the PDF file, which is specifically designed for print instead of web. If you're interested, you can download a sample here. Note that this document is generated on-the-fly.
Personal involvement
Together with Ewald Smits, Oscar Kneppers, Jeroen Wijering and Merien ten Houten, I founded and own SYNC.
I've also implemented the software for the printbundle and have done some work on the backend. And once in a while I write an article or newsitem as well.
